Price dependent on event

I’m wondering…

Do I need to be a “good” or “real” artist?

Not at all! What does that even mean, anyway? (Seriously, if you figure this out, let me know). Form + Flow is for all levels of artists, I promise. When I (Kate) was living in Australia, I attended a similar style class and found it to be the most liberating experience! Without heavy instruction from a teacher, the need for doing it “right” or comparing my artwork to what I was “supposed” to draw disappeared. What resulted was more happiness, confidence, freedom, creative risk-taking and love for myself and my art.

Eek! I’m scared. Are you sure I won’t hate it?

No, I’m not! But that’s the point! This experience is simply an invitation. I invite you to try something new and potentially scary, and watch your internal process as you go through it.

Do all sessions feature a live nude model?

Yes. The reason for this is to create a space of shared intimacy & vulnerability between the model and the artist(s). Also, because it is a unique opportunity to draw the human form.

Why would I have to do this more than once?

Like anything in life, art and the self are constantly in flux. Therefore, each session is a unique experience. Additionally, creativity is a practice. And so is the study of the self.

Do I need to have my own art supplies?

No. While it is always encouraged to create with whatever medium inspires you, basic art supplies will be provided.

I’m not so into the emotional stuff. Can I just come to drink wine and draw?

Sure, be my guest! Do you, boo.

But I’ll leave you with a parable to ruminate on while you sip your wine.

Once, there was a young student of yoga training under a wise master. The master was endowed with teaching the student the 8 limbs of yoga: Yama (attitudes toward our environment), Niyama (attitudes toward ourselves), Asana (physical postures), Pranayama (restraint or expansion of the breath), Pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (complete integration). But the student was only interested in the Asana (physical postures). She just wanted to do a handstand. The wise master never forced the other limbs on her; he simply supported her legs while she flipped herself upside down, day in and day out. When questioned by the other masters why he didn’t force his student to study the other limbs, he said: “envision the 8 limbs as legs of a table. Whether you like it or not, you can’t pull one leg of the table towards you without the whole table moving.”
